Fall 2007 Phoenix College MUN
Press Release
Students from Phoenix College and Desert View High School played the role of ambassadors of various countries in the United Nations. They devoted a challenging day learning parliamentary rules and debating the issue of counterterrorism strategies. Clifton Redhouse and Sarah Fondse were voted as Best Delegates by their peers. Clifton hails Chinle and graduated from Pinon High School. He was in the Marines for five years as an intelligence analyst; he worked in about nine different countries including Iraq. Sarah Fondse hails from New Jersey via the Midwest. She is a full time student, banker and is preparing for a pharmacology degree. She comes from a first generation Dutch-American parents, and is fascinated by culture and international affairs.
James Quigley coordinated the conference preparation. Susan Young and Lauren Weatherbee provided staff support. Reed Mettler, Phoenix College alumnus who just completed a BA degree in World Affairs at Occidental College served as the conference director. Dr. Albert Celoza, served as the chair/presiding officer. Tor, Phoenix College and model UN Alumnus did publicity. His father Ghulam talked to the participants. He taught educational psychology as a professor in Afghanistan; he writes and publishes commentaries on Afghan politics in his Web site: http://www.staticconflict.com.
